Does anyone else find themselves feeling disappointed (unsurprisingly) at some of the corporate-focused, celebrity- filled, brand-brainwashed livestreams we’ve seen on our tvs since March? Like, yes it’s nice to get performances from our favorite artists and see their luxurious living rooms and their unchanged lives; “thank you’s” to healthcare and essential workers sprinkled throughout like a tone-deaf care package. After speaking with Windy City Indie about their upcoming livestream concert and fundraiser, Bluefecta, airing Thursday, September 17th at 7 pm CT, I felt long-lost hope and wholesomeness for the first time in a while.
Windy City Indie consists of a group of 3 pals- Karen Salmon, Sonny Garg, and Vin Reed- who came together at the beginning of the pandemic to brainstorm how they could organically support artists and keep inspiration alive with shut-downs, lost jobs, and more. Everyone misses seeing music live, but Bluefecta aims to be more than just a concert. With a lineup of woke, conscious, brilliant artists whose stories and voices embody the reason why we should all vote, 100 percent of proceeds raised during the concert will be donated directly to ROC Action Michigan, Detroit Action, Leaders Igniting Transformation (Milwaukee), and Voces de la Frontera Action (Milwaukee). Every artist has qualities that resonate with the missions of these organizations, who are on the frontlines of their communities fighting for change in public policy, providing relief for restaurant workers, educating/supporting BIPOC and youth of color, and more. There is immense power in having talent matched with a unified goal. The artists will provide a wonderful performance, but most of all, they’ll provide hope…hope that our voices –in numbers and votes –will get us out of the turmoil of 2020 (and the capitalist, racist iceberg that was below 2020 because we all know it’s BEEN time for change).
The Bluefecta lineup is stacked with phenomenal acts. You can expect to hear from

To put it bluntly, if we can flip Michigan and Wisconsin, it has the power to turn the election. Every vote makes a difference. Let’s come together and enjoy a concert that has a mission instead of the sad, awkward VMAs, where Breonna Taylor was only mentioned by one artist. Just mentioned. Share the link with your families and friends and make a zoom party out of it, cocktails and all! Event producer, Sonny, asks “Can you see yourself in someone’s story or act?” If so- Donate, Inform, Spread Awareness, and VOTE.
