After about a year or so of teasing his debut single throughout the Brooklyn underground, xJermsx is finally releasing his fan-favorite smash, Drugs in the Bathroom.

Drugs in the Bathroom both highlights and pokes fun at the cliche of the Party Girl: someone who breezes through life never waiting in line, who powders their nose with a tiny silver spoon, who smokes cigarettes for breakfast and sleeps around for exercise.

The Party Girl is one of New York’s most sought-after accolades, and the title is not a simple one to achieve. The Party Girl has to be down for anything, at any time. But not too down. She must have an air of mystery, but she must also be open enough to charm her suitors. Often, this involves lying. Lots of lying. She must be at all the events, but not for too long. She must never be the first one to arrive nor the last to leave, but she shouldn’t be the first to leave, either. She’s elusive, she’s sexy, she’s blackout drunk and snorting lines off the back of your boyfriend’s friend’s cracked iPhone in an Uber downtown (she wouldn’t dare pass 14th).

She lives in the Lower East Side, somewhere – you’re not really sure – but she mostly goes out in Bushwick. Things have changed since the Sex and the City days: Brooklyn is it, majority of Manhattan is not. xJermsx? He’s the Party Girl’s right-hand man. Without the xJermsx’s of the world, there would be no Party Girls. They need to know who the hottest DJ is, they need to know the guy putting on the shows, they need to know the one with the, well, drugs in the bathroom. xJermsx understands the Party Girl; he helps her thrive.

Aside from working with some of the city’s top-ranked girly pops – Chopstix, Miss Madeline, Cecilia Gault – xJermsx and his rave crew, Hi NRG Theory, continuously throw all-night parties known for their heavy lineups and rambunctious crowds. Like, for real. A dude flew all the way from Berlin just to attend one (and you know how Berlin is).

He speaks Czech, he decs sets – hell, he even does birthday parties (but the Manhattan kind, where the walls are glass and the moon is dancing beside you) – xJermsx is a modern-day Renaissance man. Drugs in the Bathroom is, as he describes it, a love letter to his city. The city he’s made of.

With roots in Massachusetts and the North Carolina music scene, running shit in New York City is quite the accomplishment. It’s a journey many brave Heroes have embarked on before, but not one many have survived. For xJermsx, though, it’s just another day. He’s constantly on to the next project, next idea, next party. Like the city that’s embraced him, he never sleeps. You know that Lady Gaga meme? Bus. Club. Another club. Another club. L train. That’s xJermsx. And that’s why this single – the ultimate party bop – is so fitting as his debut.

Drugs in the Bathroom shouts out some of Bushwick’s staples: Bossa Nova (she’s alive!), Mood Ring, candyflipping while the sun comes up. It’s a club anthem, perhaps the club anthem of the summer.
