Every artist found themselves rethinking, reshaping, and adapting to the colossal havoc of 2020. My pals of Late Nite Laundry were among the many. They were making waves in the Chicago DIY scene all of 2019, intoxicating venue to venue and crowd to crowd with their eclectic r&b jams. Delivered with high energy and genuine fun, yet reminiscent of warm and fuzzy nostalgia, their music was entrancing, colorful, and soothing all at the same time. Set to have an explosive year, including thirteen shows for SXSW, Late Nite’s plans came to a halt. Followed by the parting of ways with their loved lead singer, Kaitlin Logan, a re-imagining was thrust upon them, and for our benefit, they didn’t fold.
Late Nite Laundry seized the time of reflection and change. They are back and dreamier than ever, with a new single, “Fantasy,” dropping December 11th, introducing lead guitarist, Ari Lindo’s stirring vocals. The song can be felt through your fingertips, every instrument flowing into the next like a high softly tingling from body part to body part, until you’re warm and untroubled all over. The song even finishes with what sounds like a baby’s mobile, leaving us feeling like a child discovering good music on our dad’s record player for the first time. “Fantasy” was recorded in their homes and mixed by their keys player, Brenden Cabrera; Late Nite prides themselves on doing things DIY through and through.
Their bassist, Emily Burlew, designs effortlessly hip band merch (with an even COOLER haircut and presence to match). Drummer, Alex Santilli aka Drums is Love, is a rare light who’s signature drum style can be felt deep in your bones. Brenden Cabrera, sporting humble music genius, never fails to add jazzy licks and creative production to preserve the vibes that brought the band together in the first place. And last, but not least, Ari Lindo the positivity, diligence, and glue that holds everyone together, his vocals have always been deserving of a spotlight. Late Nite Laundry has stayed consistent and lovable through a difficult year. From now on, they will continue to release singles that represent their new sound and MAN, I look forward to hearing; as I remember what it first felt like to discover my taste in music and Late Nite Laundry knows how to take you back to that point in time.
